SDG3-VET

Integrating Cultural Competence into Social and Healthcare VET education Aligned with SDG-3.

This project is designed to strengthen the role of vocational education and training (VET) in advancing inclusive, culturally competent healthcare, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) — Good Health and Well-being. At its core, the initiative focuses on empowering VET educators with the tools, knowledge, and methodologies necessary to integrate global health perspectives and cultural sensitivity into their curricula. By developing comprehensive training resources and pedagogical guidance, the project aims to enhance the capacity of VET trainers to teach students about diverse health beliefs and practices, preparing future healthcare professionals for the realities of working in multicultural environments.

Beyond curriculum development, the project seeks to create more inclusive and equitable learning spaces within VET institutions. By promoting teaching approaches that embrace cultural diversity and challenge discrimination, the initiative aspires to improve student engagement and academic outcomes, particularly for learners from minority or migrant backgrounds. In doing so, it not only enriches the learning experience but also reflects the values of equity and respect at the heart of SDG 3.

The long-term impact of the project lies in its contribution to better healthcare outcomes. By embedding cultural competence into vocational training, healthcare graduates will be more attuned to the needs of diverse patient populations.

The project’s implementation will unfold through a coordinated set of activities over an 18-month period. It begins with a research phase, identifying best practices from around the world on how SDG 3 and cultural awareness are currently integrated into VET education. Insights from this research will directly inform the creation of a multilingual VET guidebook, which will serve as a practical tool for educators seeking to embed these concepts into their teaching. A dedicated “train-the-trainer” program will support the uptake of the guidebook’s methodologies, providing hands-on learning for educators across the partner countries.

The project is carried out in collaboration with partners from Spain and Cyprus and supported by the Erasmus+ program.
